In an episode of the Gary Vee podcast that I recently listened to, he gave some fundamental tips on how to get more traction and attention to your product or service by basically sharing some of your best content.

I’m taking his advice onboard and in this post I am going to share some content that I have created for my Brain Edge Training project (BET). Some months ago I ran a BET Pilot at Impakt MMA and I invited some close friends to take part in the one day training. It was challenging and fun and the support I received was amazing, in all honestly thought my organisation, layout and time keeping for the Pilot training was Sh*t.

The training that day, truthfully from a trainer’s own perspective… went down like a lead balloon, I felt it was shambles.

It was a practice of course, and I was doing something unlike anything I have ever done before, so I made many mistakes that I am now grateful for because I had the opportunity to learn so much, and I do not plan to do the same mistakes again. Therefore the BET Pilot in reality was the best thing ever!

BET is a training program that shares information, knowledge, education and awareness about exercise and nutrition and its role on physical and mental health.

Brain Edge Training is deeply personal.

Because we all want to experience a better, healthier, happier life and we all have our strengths and weaknesses, doubts and fears, dreams and goals - myself included - it’s our human condition.

One person who attended the Pilot said afterward, “You have created some really good content, all you need to do is organise it better and stick to your strengths and for sure it will be awesome.”

Since the beginning I have always considered each and every book I’ve read, podcast I have listened to or blog post I have shared to be taking a small step towards the development and creation of BET. During the process I have learned how to better use the computer and the internet and have even created my own website. I also enjoy writing and getting the grammar practice while sharing information and creating content that can be useful for people, that is actually my purpose for doing this.

With the Internet there is so much (even too much!) information out there, that is meant to educate or help to change or inspire people to better themselves. Be it mentally, in business or their economic situation, health and wellness or relationships. BET is basically a collection of such information such as meditation, exercise and nutrition combined with my own background in martial arts and my experience in coaching and personal training.

Truth is… None of us really know what we are doing in life, because nothing is for certain and that’s really what makes us uncomfortable. Everyone wants to be their best self, including me. We are all in the game of portraying our strengths to the world and hiding our weaknesses especially on social media. I do this all the time, it’s my business to demonstrate my value and I look to post fitness or martial arts videos or information on nutrition or exercise.

Over the years I have heard myself say “I only use social media for marketing” and even though it’s true, this was mostly a lie because unconsciously I sometimes find myself visiting my own page on Facebook or Instagram to check out how many likes it had received and even who liked it!?

Nowadays I can honestly say that 95% of any time whatsoever I spend online, on my phone or laptop is educational or work related, this is what I had hoped for. I’m no longer on Facebook, I still use Instagram and will be connecting via LinkedIn for business soon. Don’t get me wrong, I will 100% still post silly videos, pictures from vacations and fun moments because I am human like everybody else and want to show my best self in public.

ABC Model (Part 1) What is ABC model?

I created the ABC model to help practice better thinking every day; the model is designed to improve self awareness and communication skills, to help you achieve better results in your personal and professional life. The first part of the model is in relation to the mind, which is a major part of what BET training is all about.

*I actually have the complete framework saved as the lock screen on my phone.

Awareness - Being - Consciousness

Here is the first part of the ABC Model that I habitually use on a day to day basis to literally help me to stay grounded in all situations in day to day life.

Is the ability to directly know and perceive, to feel, or to have knowledge and awareness of events. More broadly, it is the state of being conscious of something. Here I am going to give a brief example of one way to use the Awareness tool in the first part of the model.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, try now by quickly ‘noticing’, and bringing your attention to any three things that you can see, hear and feel…

Example -

I can SEE : My laptop, all the objects and my surroundings in the room, the colour of the grey clouds in the sky out the window.

I can HEAR: The sound of the keys on my laptop, the sound of my breath, the sound of the air con.

I can FEEL: The warm temperature of the room, my breath and the feeling on my fingers on the keyboard.

Is the human experience, subjectively, personally and individually, as well as what we each experience jointly with others. A bundle of characteristics, including ways of thinking, feeling, and acting, which we are said to have naturally. The term is often regarded as capturing what it is to be human, or the essence of humanity.

Example -

“Being” also includes our emotions, ideas, decisions, drives, perceptions and actions. By simply practicing and noticing what it is that you are paying attention to moment to moment, you are being more ’present’. For example if you are tired, you notice that, if you are happy or sad, anxious or excited then you notice that. You simply just notice whatever mood or state of mind that you are in at any present moment and do not allow yourself to get carried away by any negative thoughts or feelings. If its a positive mood or mindset you are in, then you can notice that too, and enjoy it by simply being aware of the process.

Is being aware of and responding to one's surroundings, both in body and mind. Internal and external.

Example -

Mind (Internal): simply notice your thoughts and feelings, any language or words, self talk or images that come into your head. Just notice how they continuously just come and go, moment to moment and you are not your thoughts, moods etc, rather you are just experiencing them moment to moment. Just as a flag itself is not the wind, or the waves are not the ocean.

Body (External): notice the process of your own perception of the world, along with how you stand, your posture, breathing and how you actually feel in your body. Your own discernment, awareness, apprehension, learning, understanding, comprehension, enlightenment, insight, intelligence, reason, reasoning, thinking.

In paying attention to your own thoughts and feelings you can acquire knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

Lao Tzu

Personally, by practicing this process from time to time through out my day, I have come to develop a better understanding of being aware to the context of my life and its contents.

This allows me to be more present and aware of my experience (what I am thinking, feeling, doing etc) so that I can make better use of my attention. Because mindset is everything.
